New Art, New Directions: Recent Acquisitions
Oct. 4 - Dec. 8, 2022

New Art, New Directions: Recent Acquisitions Exhibit Open House, Saturday, Oct. 8, 1:00–5:00 p.m.
Vanderbilt Art Gallery’s fall exhibition, New Art, New Directions: Recent Acquisitions features thirty-one artworks added to the collection between 2013 and 2022. Yusef Lateef’s complex “autophysiopsychic music” score drawings and jailed Cuban dissident-artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara’s series Puertas (Doors) converse with Emily Arthur’s prints that question our sense of nature’s role in our home and Adger Cowans’ photographs capturing 1960s daily life as part of the Kaimonge Movement. Each artist’s work poses questions about reinvention–of self, of nature, and of our society. These works along with others by Alison Saar, Andy Warhol, Lesley Dill, and Bruce Onobrakpeya engage in the gallery’s theme for this year – REINVENT | REPAIR.
